Air Marshall Sir John Curtis has died at the age of 88
Air Marshal Curtis was Air Commander for Operation Corporate (the recovery of the Falkland Islands) in 1982. Based at Northwood in London together with C-in-C Fleet, Admiral Sir John Fieldhouse who had been appointed Commander Task Force 317.
He commanded the aircraft that flew out of Ascension Island including the Nimrods and Hercules aircraft engaged in surveillance and supply, also the Vulcan and Victor bombers that flew on the raids on Stanley Airport and the Phantoms and Harriers that provided air defence around Ascension. He died on September 14 2013.
