New Bishop for the Falklands (and to the Armed Forces)
The Falkland Islands Association was represented by its chairman, Alan Huckle, at the formal licensing of Bishop Nigel Stock as the new Bishop for the Falklands (and Bishop to the Armed Forces) by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, at a Eucharist service at Lambeth Palace on Wednesday, 9 July upon the retirement of the Rt. Revd. Dr. Stephen Venner. The service, which was followed by an informal lunch, was attended by senior clerics, members of the Armed Forces and the Falkland Islands Government's representative in London, Sukey Cameron. During his address, Bishop Stock commented that he was now a 'Bishop of prepositions' since he was Bishop at Lambeth, Bishop to the Armed Forces and Bishop for the Falklands. The Archbishop of Canterbury is formally Bishop of the Falklands but will delegate day-to-day responsibility to Bishop Stock (who said privately that he hopes to visit the Falklands as soon as practicable). The Association congratulates Bishop Stock on his appointment and wishes Bishop Venner and his wife, Judy, every happiness in their retirement."
