Battle Day Ceremony 2013
Members and friends assembled at The Cenotaph just before 11.00am. Canon Stephen Palmer conducted the service and Royal Marine bugler played Last Post and Reveille. The standards were lowered for the minutes silence. The Royal Navy colour party from HMS Collingwood were accompanied by the standards of the HMS Protector Association, the Falkland Islands and Pangbourne College. Cadets from the College provided the escort. The wreath for the Armed Services was laid by Air Chief Marshal Sir Peter Squire GCB, DFC, AFC, DL. Other wreaths were laid by Hon Roger Edwards MLA (Falkland Islands Government), Mr Alan Huckle (Falkland Islands Association), Mr Stuart Leeming (Falkland Families Association), Col Mike Bowles (South Atlantic Medal Association 1982, Group Captain Dole (Association of the Men of Kent & Kentish Men), Mr Zoran Zuvic (Falkland Islands Defence Force), Sorrel Pompert Robertson, Amy Guest and Kate Stenning (Young Falkland Islanders), Mr Douglas Harris (HMS Protector Association) and Mr Andrew Rosindell MP (UK/FI All Party Parliamentary Group). Prayers followed the wreath laying and then the contingent marched back to King Charles Street where they were inspected by Sir Peter Squire.
After the ceremony the Annual General Meeting of the FIA was held at 61 Whitehall. The Chairman, Mr Alan Huckle, presented the Annual Report (copy here) followed by the Financial Report presented by the Hon Treasurer, Mr James Wallace. The following were elected to the Executive Committee for the coming year - Mr Alan Huckle (Chairman), Mr James Wallace (Treasurer), Mr Colin Wright (Secretary), Mrs Sharon Jaffray (Editor of the Newsletter) together with Mr D G Ainslie, Air Commodore P Johnson, Mr M Jones, Ms D Giudicelli, The Hon A Shackleton, Mr Robin Wager, Col M Bowles and Mr P Martinez. In the absence of Mrs Merle Christie, Ms Sukey Cameron (FIG Representative in London) presented the Hunter-Christie Prize to the Student of the Year, Miss Mhairi-Anne Eccles. The Hon Roger Edwards MLA and Mr Andrew Rosindell MP addressed the meeting after which refreshments were served.
