Supporting the right of Falkland Islanders to decide their own future

What is the Falkland Islands Association?

The FIA is an independent, voluntary organisation. Although mainly based in the UK, it has a strong committee in the Falklands and together we work to support the right of Falkland Islanders to determine their own future. Its origins stem from the late 1960s when the UK Government was in secret discussions with the Government of Argentina.

Falkland Islands Association Origins

The Falkland Islands Emergency Committee was set up to mobilise UK public opinion against various ideas then being proposed such as condominium and lease-back. In 1982 it helped generate strong cross-party support in the UK Parliament for the expulsion of the Argentine occupying forces and for the future defence of the Islands. In 1984 it was re-formed into the membership organisation it is today.
